Export sales are another criterion to prove the strength of a car company. In recent years, we have seen the excellent performance of Chinese car companies in the domestic market, and sales have reached unprecedented heights. However, expanding overseas sales is not as easy as domestic sales, and there are various concerns. Let’s take a look at the sales data of major car companies from January to September.

BYD, overseas sales: 659,429 vehicles.
Chery, overseas sales: 657,823 vehicles.
MG, overseas sales: 340,572 vehicles.
Haval, overseas sales: 237,524 vehicles.
Geely Auto, overseas sales: 216,211 vehicles.
Jetour, overseas sales: 180,462 vehicles.
Changan, overseas sales: 176,101 vehicles.
Tesla, overseas sales: 173,660 vehicles.
Baojun, overseas sales: 151,701 vehicles.
Yueda Kia, overseas sales: 127,988 vehicles.

As an automobile company that has been deeply involved in overseas markets for many years, Chery has always ranked first among domestic automobile companies in sales. Chery’s various models are very popular in overseas markets. However, with the rise of BYD in recent years, it has achieved the first place in the domestic market, which is also daunting for other automobile companies. In the past two years, BYD has frequently deployed in overseas markets, established overseas production plants and sales network systems, and sales have also increased accordingly. In particular, from January to September this year, sales reached 650,000 vehicles, which is also the first time that it has surpassed the overseas sales leader Chery Automobile. According to current sales, BYD’s overseas sales are expected to reach 900,000 vehicles in 2025, and are expected to hit the 1 million mark.

Besides the strong performances of BYD and Chery, MG, which hasn’t fared well in China, saw impressive overseas sales figures, ranking third with sales of 340,000 units. With the strong backing of SAIC, MG’s overseas expansion is a natural progression.

In addition to BYD and Chery, Haval, Geely Auto, and Changan Automobile all made the top ten of the top five independent automakers. Haval’s SUVs are also very popular overseas. Chery’s Jetour brand remains in sixth place. We should clarify that this list ranks brand sales only, not automakers’ overseas sales. If automakers were ranked by overseas sales, Chery would still lead the way.

Baojun ranked ninth. Baojun had a strong performance in the domestic market in recent years, but with the expansion of other automakers, its domestic sales have declined significantly. Fortunately, Baojun performed well in overseas markets, with overseas sales reaching 150,000 units from January to September.

The current automobile market is highly competitive, especially the domestic market, which is basically saturated. Expanding overseas markets has become a must for automobile companies.
