With 15 years of history, Singer Vehicle Design is arguably the granddaddy of 911 retro tuning labels, and despite facing more than a dozen competing brands these days, Singer is always looking for ways to stay ahead of the curve, and the latest installment proves it once again.

With the recent redesign of the 911 Carrera Coupe (964), which follows the classic Turbo architecture and adds a Cosworth-tuned naturally aspirated engine, Singer has given birth to a modern classic sports car for enthusiasts looking for a special experience.

Singer’s redesigned Porsche 911 Carrera Coupe pays homage to the wide-bodied Carrera Super Sport models of the 1980s.

As with all Singer projects, this 911 Carrera Coupe is based on the 964 generation, and the complete disassembly of the vehicle, leaving only the steel monocoque shell, signaled the start of the rebuild, where their goal was to create timeless classic styling with state-of-the-art modern technology.

As we all know, personalization of the Singer is mandatory, not optional. As for this Carrera Carrera Coupe is offered in two versions, Touring and Sport, with the former having a more restrained look, while the Sport package is based on the more aggressive DLS Turbo design.

The Sport version is particularly eye-catching, featuring the classic “whale tail” rear spoiler, which combines with the more aggressive front face to create an even more dramatic appearance.

The Singer is also uncompromising when it comes to the interior. The cars on display show two very different philosophies. The Sport version of the yellow bullet “Giallo Segnale” has a pure and rich racing style, with fixed racing bucket seats, roll cage, exposed shifter and door pulls.

The azure “Celeste Passalacqua”, the Touring version, is pure luxury, with refined leather upholstery and exquisite craftsmanship, and can be customized.

Techno gimmick with vintage charm

In addition to offering two looks, the Singer also brings something “new” to the table this time around, an interesting but technically complex piece of equipment: pop-up auxiliary lights on the hood, officially known as “High Performance Auxiliary Headlights”.

At the push of a button, this set of circular lampshades is embedded into the metal cover, and while this wave of maneuvering will attract some controversy, the reality is that you can’t find anything like it, and that’s exactly why these details of the Singer are so mesmerizing.

Cosworth Technology Plus

This version is a modern interpretation of the rare Carrera model, equipped with the supersport equipment of the 80s, which was already a novelty at the time, all because it had the look of the Turbo model, but without the turbo under the hood.

Of course, the engine, developed by Singer in collaboration with Cosworth, is the real highlight. This 4.0-liter, six-cylinder, horizontally-opposed, naturally-aspirated engine is based on the engine from the DLS program and has been further upgraded with variable valve timing and water-cooled heads to give it a red-zone revving speed of up to 8,000 rpm, and is paired with a titanium exhaust system to give it a to-die-for sound. The titanium exhaust system gives the engine an unmistakable sound.

This engine produces 420 horsepower, and while the numbers aren’t exactly eye-popping, this 911 Carrera Coupe is light enough to have a thrust-to-weight ratio that far exceeds that of many sports cars today, and the engine delivers a completely linear and direct power delivery that is perfectly in line with what gamers have come to expect from a high-revving, naturally-aspirated engine.

Chassis technology for F1 cars

To counteract the power, the Singer uses Red Bull Formula One Advanced Technology (RBAT) to create chassis reinforcements made of steel and composite materials that provide greater rigidity and precision for the classic race car.

Equipped with adjustable dampers, electronically adjustable chassis settings and a front axle lift system, the whole package is perfectly suited for everyday use.For those who want to push the driving experience to the extreme, carbon ceramic brakes and 18-inch center-locking wheels are also available as an option.

Like almost all of Singer’s projects, the Carrera Coupé is produced in a limited run of just 100 units. The price depends a lot on the configuration chosen, and if you opt for a more richly equipped model, the price tag easily exceeds 1 million euros, which is about Rs. 8.083 million.

However, in contrast to other recent Singer projects, such as the DLS or DLS Turbo models, which are more extreme in terms of technology and appearance, the Carrera Coupe returns to everyday practicality without losing the distinctive charm of the Singer brand.

It’s clear that Singer’s redesigned 911 Carrera Coupé is more than just a beautiful replica, it’s a statement of love for the classic sports car, with fantastic styling and loaded with technology that not only meets today’s standards, but exceeds them in so many ways, with Turbo looks, naturally-aspirated engines, modern chassis technology, and fully customizable appointments that make iteven more unique.
