Two days ago, the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers (CAAM) released auto export data for 2024, with 5.859 million vehicles exported for the year, a year-on-year increase of 19.3%.By vehicle type, passenger cars exported 4.955 million units, up 19.7% year-on-year; commercial vehicles exported 904,000 units, up 17.5% year-on-year.
5.859 million units, this data basically reigning as the world’s No. 1 automobile exporter is not in doubt.Last year with 4.91 million units of results beyond Japan to win the title, this year’s 19.3% growth in the reign is no problem.
Among the top 10 exporters, Chery won with 1.144 million units, with last year’s winner SAIC slipping a bit year-on-year, quite due of course to the high tariffs imposed on SAIC by the EU.SAIC slipped to second place with 929,000 units.Changan Automobile was third with 536,000 units.
Of course BYD’s growth rate is the most impressive, BYD exported 433,000 units, up 71.8% year-on-year; faster growth rate of Changan Automobile exported 536,000 units, up 49.6% year-on-year; JAC exported 249,000 units, up 46.7% year-on-year.
Among the export destination countries, Russia, Mexico, and the United Arab Emirates ranked among the top 3 according to the statistics as of October.
Looking ahead to 2025, exports are estimated to increase, but there are some challenges, such as tariffs in the European Union and the U.S. Of course, if car companies set up large-scale overseas factories in order to bypass the tariffs, then it will also indirectly affect the export figures. But no matter what, the steps of Chinese car companies going overseas will be getting bigger and bigger.
